New COVID testing requirement for Tournament of Rocks

In light of the surge in COVID cases associated with the Omicron variant, plus the increased travel and family gatherings this year, we have decided to adopt a vaccination-plus-testing protocol.

For the Tournament of Rocks bonspiel next week, all participants and spectators are required to show proof of full vaccination (minimum two doses, with minimum 2 weeks time since second dose).  Additionally, we are requiring that all participants and spectators provide a negative COVID test.  This may be a PCR test taken within 48 hours of event start, or an antigen test taken the same day.

To save time at check in, you may opt to email your test results or vaccination record to SCCC at covid@curling.la.  All submissions to this email will be used to check off your name, then deleted.  SCCC will not keep your information on file. If you don’t choose to utilize this option, please be sure to bring your vaccination record (a digital option is fine), and your negative test result.

LA County offers free testing sites, regardless of insurance status.  Likewise, you can get free testing through most CVS, Walgreens, Albertsons, Wal Mart, Target, Ralph’s, etc… At-home antigen tests can be purchased at most pharmacies.

Thank you for your understanding and willingness to adapt as we work to keep our curling family as safe as possible! Please let us know if you have any questions.  Happy holidays!

Board Election Results

We had a surprisingly competitive election this year, with 11 candidates running for 7 available seats. We are pleased to announce the 2022 Board of Directors:

Hannah Berg
Christopher Bruton
Richard Cruz
Amanda Landrian
Larry Lieberman
Marissa Messier
Nikole Rockwell
Cameron Ross
Cindy Wood

Three current directors will be leaving the Board at the end of 2021—Chad Finlay, Darius Hamilton-Smith, and Koren Hanson. We are sad to see them leave and are infinitely grateful for their hard work over the past several years.

We had a high turnout for this election, with 49% of eligible members casting a ballot. Thank you to everyone who voted or submitted nominations, and thanks especially to all of the nominees who chose to run.

Food & Clothing Donation Drive

Tis the season of giving, and that is why we are so excited to announce our first Hollywood Curling Gives Back event. Through the month of December, Hollywood Curling will be collecting non-perishable food and new or gently used clothing items to donate to local nonprofit organizations, such as The Trans Wellness Center, Downtown Women’s Center, LA Food Bank, and Project Ropa, who provide essential resources to the unhoused community and others in need across Los Angeles.

Donations will be accepted beginning this weekend (December 3) at our Holiday Bonspiel and through the end of our Tournament of Rocks Bonspiel (December 31). All items should be brought to the Southern California Curling Center and placed in the designated collection boxes.

Not sure what to donate? We’ve put together a helpful guide of both non-perishable food and clothing items that are most commonly in demand to get you started. For clothing items, we kindly ask that you only donate items that you would be willing to wear yourself, and to please be sure that all gently used items are clean and ready to wear (no holes or repairs needed). Also note that all undergarments must be new – used undergarments will not be accepted.

If you would like to volunteer to help sort and deliver items at the end of the event, please contact Amanda Landrian at amanda@hollywoodcurling.org.

Our New Website

We are proud to launch a brand new website for Hollywood Curling! We hope you will like it as much as we do. Take a look around and let us know what you think.

This new site uses WordPress as its backend platform, which will make it easier for us to keep it up to date with fresh content. It is now hosted at a provider in Los Angeles and we have put some effort into streamlining the content, so it should load faster for our members and local community.

We’re still working on migrating content from our old site and we don’t have a members-only section ready yet, but you can renew your membership without logging in. We’ll be continuing to improve and add to this site in the coming months.

Thanks for visiting!
